Dr Alison Theobald

Associate Scientist & Climatologist

Dr Alison Theobald holds a PhD in Climatology and Atmospheric Science from the University of Queensland, where she developed the multi-level synoptic typing technique for regional hydroclimate studies. She brings to the project over 10 years experience in applying this technique to synoptic meteorology and to local and regional weather and climate. She has developed synoptic climatologies for: the headwater catchments of the Snowy Mountains, NSW, a critical region for understanding inflows to the reservoirs of the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme; coral bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef; and instances of fish kills and extreme meteorology on coral reefs in the northern Red Sea. These studies have been published in highly regarded international journals, including Scientific Reports. Alison also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Ocean and Earth Science from the University of Liverpool in the UK. Originally from northern England, she is currently based in southeast Queensland where she and her partner have spent the last 15 years returning their property to native bushland and enjoying the adjacent national park.
